The Bon-Bons were among the Finest Corps in the Country, having competed against and beaten all the top Corps including the Big Boys in North Jersey and New York!
Corps History
Organized as “The Bon-Bon Girls” in 1939, by a few interested members of Murray-Trout Post 262, American Legion of Audubon, New Jersey.
During this Post’s sponsorship, the Bon-Bon Girls won the New Jersey Junior State Championship in 1945, Color-Guard State Championship in 1945 and 1946 and the National Color-Guard Championship in 1947.
In December 1948 the Corps reorganized to become an independent incorporated Corps. It operated independently until 1952, when the OaklynAudubon-Bettlewood Post No. 4463 V. F. W. offered their sponsorship which was accepted. Audubon is honored and respected by its competitors for its excellent sportsmanship and fine “esprit de Corps”.
Many people are of the opinion that “Drum Corps” is the realm and possession of the stronger sex. The weaker sex, as represented by Audubon, show with devastating clarity the effectiveness of a well-disciplined and welltrained Girls Corps. Instructors are: William Bernert (Brass and M & M), William Reamer (Drums).
Corps Director is Joseph Bernert and Drum Majorette is Grace Bendorf
