Corps History

The Ballantine Brewers, formed in 1963, was a senior marching and maneuvering and parade corps based in Newark, New Jersey. They were sponsored by Irvington VFW Post 9393 and were sponsored by the Ballantine Brewery of Newark, NJ.

They used a Beer truck as there Equipment truck. Given to them by the Brewery. (It is rumored that they also got Free beer). There off the line was "Who Is The Ale Man" which was the Brewery's music for commercials. I know that as a FACT. One time while watching a NY Football Giant's game on TV, they had the Brewers for the Half Time show, Which in those day's was shown on TV. It caused a Huge problem between the Giant's and the TV station. The game was being sponsored by Shaffer Beer. You can imagine the Shaffer Brewery was not please to hear the "Who Is The Ale Man" theme being played on TV when they (Shaffer) were paying the broadcast rights. By the way, they also played a little solo before starting like Hawthorne. But they played " Hey get your cold Beer. Hey get your Ballantine Beer" and  then into,  "Who Is The Ale Man".
I do know they did a parade in North Jersey before the one in Asbury Park. But I got the First photo in to Drum Corps News

The corps’ colors were black, red, and white.

The Brewers, although short lived, did participate with other corps in a Carnegie Hall concert in 1964.
The corps existed only two years, disbanding in 1964.
