Corps History
The Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights of Newark, NJ were formed in 1946 as a coed parade corps. In 1952
they went competitive as an all male corps, a tradition that continued until 1971. Sac turned out to be one of
the greatest corps ever..consider these accomplishments:
From 1954 thru 1963 they won 9 of the 13 Nationals they entered. From 1954 thru 1970 they were in the top 4
18 times in the 21 Nationals they entered.
From 1958 thru 1963 they won 112 of 135 contests. Sac won the VFW National Championship in 1954, 1958 and
1960. They won American Legion Nationals in 1954, 1956, 1958, 1959 and 1963. They also won the first World
Open in 1963. Blessed Sacrament, one of the original 13 DCI member corps, never attended the DCI
Championships. The corps folded after the 1972 season. A senior corps was formed in 1975 which competed in
DCA but they too were gone a year later.
