The following photo was taken in 1947 of the Imhof Sr. Corps parading in their original American Legion uniforms before adopting the name "Thunderbirds". The late Frank McCormick of Reilly fame was drum major and music arranger of the corps helping to make them competitive in the post war forties and fifties.

Organized in 1946, the “Thunderbirds” have dominated the Pennsylvania American Legion State Competition by winning tile championship five times in the last seven years. A record which cannot be matched by any other corps in this state. This corps climaxed a brilliant season by placing fourth in the American Legion National Contest at New York.
The “Thunderbirds’ music and drill are designed primarily to please the public.
