Gal's

 

 

Vivian (Bellerjeau) Swiggard

Married to James, they have nine children. They have thirty-four grandchildren with one on the way. Vivian has held several jobs in addition to being a wife and mother: a computer operator: a Patient Service Associate at Roxbough Memorial Hospital. She is now retired. In Osmond, Vivian was a Guide-on for four years. Her favorite music is Disco. 

MMM: The Blue Comet bus, and the bus waiting outside my house. because I overslept.

 

 

Vivian (Bischoff) Place

Married to Carl, they have two children and a grandchild. Vivian is a supervisor for a printing and advertising firm. In Osmond for eight years 1946 to 1952. She was a Guide-On and in the Color Guard. She also was on the Corps Committee. Her favorite Osmond music was ‘Coke. 

MMM: The trip to Miami and the trip to Milwaukee. What could go wrong?

 

Phyliss A. (Blessing) Rogerson

Married to Don, they have three children and five grandchildren. She is a bookkeeper. In Osmond for four + years Phyliss carried a rifle and a Guide-on flag. Her favorite music is Johnny Mathis. 

MMM: The trip to the 1953 VFW National Championship in Milwaukee.

 

Betty (Brown) Brown

Married to Jay Brown. Betty works for the Quadratek Co., a software design company. In Osmond for three years she was a Guide-On. MMM: Bus trips and the Big Wheel fiasco in Reading.

   

 

                               Pat (Bryan) Keegan                                  

Married to Bart, they have five children and nine grandchildren. Pat worked at thePennsylvania College of Optometry as a Assistant Bursar/Student Loan Office. InOsmond for seven years Pat was a Guide-On and a Drum Majorette. Her favorite music is Gershwin, what else. MMM: Nationals in Milwaukee.

 

 

                                 Liz (Delaney) Brown                                   

Liz has two children and two grandchildren. She is a receptionist for the Depaul Group. In Osmond for six years Liz was a Guide-on and in the Color Guard. One of her favorite Marches was ‘King Cotton’. MMM: Being in the VFW Nationals and having to wear a girdle at age 12.

 

 

Dolores (Eisenach) McCracken

Married to George, they have five children and fifteen grandchildren (four step).Dolores just recently retired from a telecommunication holding company where she was Supervisor of accounts payable and treasury. During six years in Osmond she was a Guide-on, Majorette, and Drum Major. MMM: Winning the VFW National Championship in Miami and falling in love with George at the same time. 

 

Ruth (Friel) Dunn

Married to Robert, they have two children and four grandchildren. Ruth had two careers, homemaker and a legal secretary. In Osmond for 6 years Ruth was a Guide-On and a Captain of the Guide-On’s. Ruth likes contemporary nrnsic.

Eileen ‘Babst (Gallagher) Wagner

Eileen has six children and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Babs was a homemaker until twenty-six years ago she went to work for the Philadelphia Gas Works. In Osmond for three or four years she carried a Guide-On flag. 

MMM: Bus trips, Hymie Walker. The State contest in Harrisburg and the trip to St. Louis and winning the VFW Nationals.

   

 

Betty Ann (Gindhart) Cleighton                       

Betty Ann has three children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. For the past fifteen years Betty Ann has been a receptionist and Administrative Assistant at the Manufacturing Country Club. In Osmond for six years 1946- 1952, she was a Guide-On and marched in the Color Guard. Her favorite Osmond music was ‘Bells of St Mary’ and Isle of Capri’. 

MMM: Meeting Tommy, all major trips and visiting friends.

   

                   Barbara (Gunn) Hottenstein                       

Married to Clarence, they have three children and nine grandchildren. Barbara is a Buyer at her work. In Qsmond during 1955 Barbara was a Guide-on. 

MMM: A Drum and Bugle contest in Reading and finishing last.

 

                         Roseann (Haley) Cass                       

Married to Don for 47 years. they have four children and six grandchildren. Roseann is a homemaker. In Qsmond five 5 years, she carried a rifle and sword in the Color Guard. She enjoys Swing and some Country Music. 

MMM: Hurricane in Miami.

 

 

Elsie (Hart)Hackett

Married to Jack, they had one child and one grandchild. Elsie worked at Cigna Insurance. Co. for 28 year and is now retired. In Qsmond 1951 to 1953 she marched with the Color Guard. She was part of the competing Color Guard. Her favorite Osmond music was “Good News’ and ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: Meeting her husband Jack and meeting new friends.

   

 

 

Pat (Hemmerle)Barth

Married to Richard, they have three children and seven grandchildren. She has worked for nine years in the Human Relalions Department at Boscov. In Osmond for six years 1950- 1956, she marched in the Color Guard. Her favorite Osmond Music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue. 

MMM:. Not just one memorable moments but many and enjoyed them all.

 

 

 

Dolores (King)Dowlan

Married to John, they will celebrate their 60th Anniversary in May 2009. They have three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Their newest great grand daughter's name is "Cadence". Strange how drum corps terms never cease to pop up when least expected.

Marched in Osmond from 1945-1948. Dolores was a Guide-On and in the Color Guard. She also demonstrated her artistic abilities by designing Bracken's "Cavalier" uniforms of the late forties and early fifties.

Her favorite Lee Wolf arrangements were "Slaughter On Tenth Ave" and The "Bells Of St. Mary".

MMM: The 1946 VFW National Contest in Boston. We didn't win but the bus ride and all the other fond memories will last forever.

   

 

                Jane (Kneller) McGinnis                

Jane has four children and four grandchildren. She is employed by the D.E.A. as a secretary. In Osmond for five years Jane was in the Color Guard. She likes the music of the 40’, 50’s and 60’s. 

MMM: The many good times with friends on bus trips, the Field Contest and socials.

   

 

Joan (Kurz) Miller

Married to Don, they have three children and three grandchildren. Semi-retired, Joan has a B.S. (Nursing) and was employed in the Administrative and Educational levels of Nursing. In Osmond for six years Joan carried a flag. 

MMM: Winning the VFW Nationals in St.. Louis and Miami.

   

Marie (Kurz) Sharp

Married to Don , they have four children and 12 grandchildren. Retired in 1989 from Bell Atlantic. Marie is currently a Contractor to Bell Comm. Research and writes tech-manuals. She travels throughout the United States teaching Software Eng. Systems. InOsmond for six years Marie carried a Guide-On flag. 

MMM: Hurricane in Miami.

 

 

Kathleen (McKenna) Weigle

Kathleen has seven children and seventeen grandchildren. She was a homemaker and when she moved to Wildwood Crest she took part time employment in a N.J. Nursing Home. In Osmond for three years 1943 to 1946, she was in the Color Guard.. She loved all the experiences in the Drum Corps.

 

 

Pat (McKenna) Kretzinger

Pat has four children and six grandchildren. She was a secretary at Protector and Swartz Co. She was called up to active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950 to1952. In Qsmond for three years 1940 to 1942, she was in the Color Guard.

 

 

 

Grace (Molineaux) Schrandt

Married to Ray. they have two children. Grace was a homemaker and worked for a time as a keypunch operator. In Osmond for three years 1947 to 1949, she was a Guide-On and carried a flag. 

MMM: Trip to Miami. Kent Hotel and the Hurricane.

 

 

LiIllan (Pitts) Dickson       

Married to Richard, they have two children and three grandchildren. Lillian has been the Administrative Assistant in her church for thirty-four years. in Osmond for four years 1948-1952 she marched in the Color Guard. Her favorite Osmond music was “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: At an indoor Color Guard contest the spear tip on the flag pole got caught in a hanging basketball net. The VFW National Championship of 1948 and 1949. The hurricane that hit Miami in 1949.

   

 

Barbara (Roach) Woods      

Married to George, they have six children and eight grandchildren. She was an Army wife for twenty-seven years and now works as an Education Specialist for the Department of Defense. In Osmond for five years Barbara carried a rifle in the Color Guard, was a Guide-On and a Drum Majorette. Her favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. She also enjoys classical and show music.

Joan (Robinson) Bentz                       

Married to Robert, they have four children and 11 grandchildren. Works part time in the Hatboro-Horsham school district In Osmond for four years, 1946 to 1950, Joan was in the Color Guard. Her favorite Qsmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: Packing her uniform on hanger for a Parade. When bus ride seemed to be long asked where Parade was, informed that the Parade was in Washington DC. She realized it was for the inauguration for Harry Truman and the corps was staying over-night. She had not packed a suitcase nor had she told her parents that she would not be home that night.

   

 

          Elaine (Rush) Hoagland       

Married to Albert and works in the accounting field. In Osmond for six years Elaine carried the Post flag, American flag and was Captain of the Color Guard 

MMM: The Chicago National VFW Championships in 1950.

 

 

Katherine ‘Kitty’ (Ryan) Cwalino                

Katherine is married to Bob. In Osmond from 1938 to 1956, she was in the Color Guard and was a Drum Majorette. She liked all the music that Osmond played. Kitty was also on the Corps Committee. 

MMM: Winning the major contest and the first VFW Nationals.

   

 

Helen (Ryan) Hinnegan  

Married to Joseph, they have six children and four grandchildren with one on the way. Helen is a homemaker for 50 years. In Osmond for five years she was a Captain of the Guide-Ons.

 MMM: The July 4th celebration and parading all day long. The 1946 VFW National Competition in Boston.

 

 

 

Arlene (Schilling) Hayes

Married to Ken, they have three children (one deceased) and three grandchildren. Arlene is a homemaker. In Osmond from 1942 to 1948, Arlene was in the Color Guard and was a Drum Majorette. She likes Big Band music. 

MMM: The 1946 VFW Convention in Boston and the 1947 VFW Convention in Cleveland.

 

Lois (Schilling) Rutherford                                                   

Married to Art, they have two children and three grandchildren. Lois worked in an accounting office 18 years and is now happily retired. Now she has the time to spend on her hobbies which are traveling, quilting, gardening, sewing and being with her two year old grandson. Lois carried a flag for the two years she was in the corps. MMM: Florida trip during the hurricane.

 

 

Dolores (Siro) Krupinsky              

Married to Bill for 42 years. They have two children and two grandchildren. Dolores worked for 28 years, (now retired), in the Philadelphia School District as a senior secretary at the Abraham Lincoln High School. Presently she is a consultant for “Technical Assistance Center for Public Charter Schools”. In Osmond for a approximately six years she marched as a Drum Majorette. Her favorite music is classical, music of the 50’s, Frank Sinatra, Pete Fountain, and Pops. 

MMM: The thrill of being at the Orange Bowl. The fun enjoyed while “locked In” our hotel during the hurricane in Miami, Florida.

   

Stephanie (Smith) Southrey              

Stephanie had one child (deceased). She is employed at Parr Engineering Associates Inc. for the past 38 years. She is the Office Manger. In Osmond for seven years, Stephanie marched carrying a rifle or a saber, and in Miami she carried a Guide-on flag. Her Favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter’ Hindustan’ and Finiculi-Finicula’.

 MMM: So many it’s hard to select; the first time we won Nationals in St. Louis but mostly Miami where we made a clean sweep of the parade, individuals contests and the final field contest in the Orange Bowl. The Hurricane and marching through the halls in the Kent Hotel. I cherish the friendships formed and kept. Hymie Walker, Kitty and Bob Cwalino and all others, who gave of their time and resources for us. The honor of being in President Trumans inauguration parade.

 

Kathleen ‘Cass’ (Widmeier) Meehan

Married to Jim, they have four children and ten grandchildren, Over the past forty-five years, Cass’s career has been a Housewife, Mother, Lover, Psychologist and CEO. For three years she was a Computer Spec. at Kemper Insuranoe Co. For eighteen years she was VP Finance and a Board Member of JPM International. In Osmond for six years she carried a rifle in the Color Guard. Her favorite Osmond Song was ‘Red Sails in the Sunset’. 

MMM: It was the greatest teen years experience that brings back a warmth of memories

   

Henrietta (Zink) Sweeney                      

Henrietta has two children. She had a career working in the office environment Spent six years in Qsmond carrying a Saber in the Color Guard. She likes Pop music. MMM: TheWorld’s Fair in New York. Bob Adair   

Bob has two children and two grandchildren. He held the position of Credit Analyst for thirty five years at Dun and Bradstreet and is now retired. He also.worked for the U.S. Government in procurement for eight years. In Osmond from 1941 to 1951, Bob played a soprano horn. MMM: The leadership of Hymie Walker, long-time friendships made and the VFW National Championships.

 

 

   

Don Adair         

Married to Jeanne Nagel (Deceased), they had four children and one grandchild. Worked for Dun and Bradstreet for 46 years as a credit reporter and a court reporter. Was in U.S.Marines from 1952 to 1954. In Osmond for 11 years 1939 to 1950, He played a soprano horn. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’ and ‘Dancing in theDark’. 

MMM: The 1946 National VFW contest in Boston.

 

 

Bill Beckmann

Married to Erna for over 50 years, they have two children and four grandchildren. Worked as a consulting engineer doing Electromechanical Packaging and Microchip packaging design. In Osmond for six years, 1947 to 1953. His favorite Osmond Music was "Coke" "Slaughter on 10th Ave" and "March of the Mounties"

MMM: Nationals in St Louis, Miami, Chicago and New York. The Allentown Contest. Being part of the greatest group of people one could ever imagine! 

                                                                   

Dennis Blackwell

Dennis has five children and four grandchildren. In the insurance business for 23 years. He now has his own Agency. Played drums professional until he was thirty years old. Dennis played with local Jazz and Blues Bands. In Osmond two years 1955-1956, played snare drum. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’, ‘Coke’ and ‘Semper Fideles’. 

MMM: Drum Major ‘Suki’ being lifted to top of concrete wall to lead the concert piece in the rain.

 

George A. Brown

George has four children and one grandchild. He is a Movie Producer and a Real Estate Sales Person. In Qsmond for three years he played a bugle. His favorite music is big bands. MMM: All that included Ernie, Chuck, Willie, Robert, Spider and Joe Snyder and the Brown brothers.

 

Jay Brown

Married to Betty (Brown), they have three children and 5 grandchildren. Jay worked for PECO for thirty-five years and is now retired. He was a snare and tenor drummer. Hisfavorite Osmond music is ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’ and ‘Rhapsody in Blue’.

MMM: The bus trips and the fiasco in Reading.

 

 

 

Charles ‘Corney’ Cornelious           

Married to Jean. He was in Osmond from 1937 to 1941 and he played the drums.

 

Charles Croce         

Married to Mildred, they have two children, two grandchildren and a great grandchild. He worked on a Blackman Syrup Co. truck with Hymie Walker for a few years. He later worked for the I.T.E. Circuit Breaker Co. with a few of the Reilly Raiders Corps member. In Osmond from 1934 to 1941 he played a soprano and a baritone. His favorite Osmond music was Thunder’ and ‘Rio Rita’.

 

 

Bob Cullen            

Married to Marge (Deceased)(She was in Rising Sun), they have one child and two grandchildren. Bob worked for the Philadelphia Police Department He is owner and President of the Robert Cullen Detective Agency. He is now retired. In Osmond for two years he played the soprano horn. His favorite music is Irish music. 

MMM: When I won the National Champship.(Soprano Bugle)

 

Bob Cwalino 

Married to Kitty. Bob was Osmond Post Commander, Corps Director, on Hymie Walker’s Corps committee and bus driver. 

MMM: Meeting Kitty. Watching the Corps win the VFW National Title.

 

 

John Aloysius Danks

Married to Patricia Anne (Kenny). John has four step-children and five step-grandchildren. John was in the Catholic Priesthood from 1961 to 1985, a travel agent for Caesar’s, Las Vegas in 1985, a Social Worker for Home Health and HMO 1985 to 1989. Presently a Hospice Bereavement - Pastoral/Spiritual Care Counselor. In Osmond from spring, 1947 thru Summer 1951, he began as a soprano horn (John Mountain, Instructor: to Baritone). His favorite Osmond music, ‘Only Make Believe’, ‘Dancing in the Dark’, The Thunderer’, The Pinwheel March’. 

MMM: Bus trips, singing and harmonizing. I was the social worker for Dr. Bernie Baggs, (music judge in 1948 Nationals) in Las Vegas during the few months prior to his death in 1988.

 

 

Thomas J. Danks 

Married to Adrienne, they have four children and three grandchildren and one due in September. Tom is self-employed, “Danks Noetic Services”. A Management Consultant. In Osmond for eight years, he played a soprano horn. His favorite Osmond music is ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’ and ‘Dancing in the Dark’. M7MM: The train ride to Montgomery Alabama for the half-time show during the Blue Gray Football game and the VFW Nationals in New York City.

 

Don Dickson 

Married to Christine, they have five children and six grandchildren. He was in the Insurance industry for 30 years and retired in 1989. Don is a volunteer in the Penn State 4H program, he ran an exchange program. He also raised ‘Seeing-Eyes Dogs’. In Osmond for five years 1946 -1950, he played a soprano. His favorite. Osmond music was Hindustan’. MMM: General good feelings about being able to travel around the country.

 

Richard Dickson

Married to Lillian, they have two children and three grandchildren. Worked 20 years as store and supply supervisor for a company that manufactures catalytic converters. In Osmond for twelve years, 1937 to 1946, 1948 and 1949, he played the bass drum and the cymbals. His favorite Osmond music was Isle of Capri”. 

MMM: Following John Mountain getting himself a few street signs, for souvenir after a contest.

   

Ernie Donnelly

Married to Pat, they have two children and five grandchildren. Ernie was self employed in Sales and Service in construction related products. In Osmond from 1952 to 1956 Ernie played a horn. His favorite Osmond songs were ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’ and Dancing in the Dark’. 

MMM: National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

 

John Dowlan 

Married to Dolores (King), they will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary in May1999. They have three children and three grandchildren. John is retired from the U.S. Navy where he was employed as a Electronic Technician. In Osmond for five yearsJohn played a snare drum in 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1946 I 1947. Also spent two years as the drum instructor, 1948/1949. His favorite Osmond song was ‘Lonesome Road’.

MMM: Boston VFW National ,l 946.

 

Robert Dunn

Married to Ruth (Friel), they have two children and four grandchildren. Bob had worked as a carpenter at the Naval shipyard in Philadelphia. In Osmond for two years he played a drum. His favorite Osmond song was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: Trip to New York for the VFW National Convention in 1951.

 

 

 

James F. Fenerty

Married to Kathleen M., they have five children and ten grandchildren. Jim was a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department until he retired in 1981. He was the director of Environmental Safety for the Lankenau Hospital and retired in 1991. He is the Fire Marshall for Whitpain Township. In Osmond for four years he played a baritone. His favorite Qsmond music was ‘Make Believe’ and ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: Hymie Walker digging into his own pocket to give everyone fifty cents to buy a hamburger at the Mt Penn Diner.

 

Jim ‘Hap’ Gallagher

Married to Mary, they have three children. Jim retired in 1990 from the Philadelphia Police Department He now holds a position with Finnaren and Haley Paints Co. In Osmond for four years 1953 thru 1956, he played a Horn. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaugher on Tenth Avenue’.

MMM: After a great show in the contest in Batavia, New York, the boys celebrated too much and went swimming nude in a fountain and got arrested.

 

 

George E. Gardner

Married to Emily (Cappolla) (Deceased April 9th, 1996). They have two children (onedeceased) and two grandchildren. George worked for New Jersey State as BureauChief. In Osmond for 12 years, 1938 to 1950, he played a bugle. Both George andEmily were on Hymie’s committee.

Ellwood Gehlert

Married to Diane, they have six children and seven grandchildren. El was self-employed as a home repairman. He was in Merchant Marines from 1943 to 1945. In Osmond for 6 years, 1939 to 1943 and 1945 to 1946. He played a baritone. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Pause that Refreshes’, and That Old Black Magic’. 

MMM: The State Championship at the ‘VFW State Convention in Philadelphia, 1946

 

Walt Grau

Married to Mary, they have six children and thirteen grandchildren and one on the way. Walt worked with the Frank Florist for eight years He also worked for the U. S. Postal Service until he retired in 1994. In Osmond from 1945 to 1947 he played the Bass drum and cymbals. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Bells of St. Mary’ and Tm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover’. 

MMM:. Trip to Boston in 1946 and sleeping on Army cots in the underground parking lot of the large Municipal Stadium.

 

 

Joseph Gummel

Married to Peggy, they have six children and twelve grandchildren. Joe is employed in nuclear construction for 47 years. Has some time to enjoy golf and tennis. In Osmond for 7 years, 1943 to1950, he played a soprano. 

MMM: Enjoyed all the bus trips. It was a great opportunity for teenagers to travel.

 

 

   

Charles Hackett

Married to Betty, they have seven children and seven grandchildren. He worked thirty-two years with the Meenan Oil Co. Currently President of Condo Association and Vice President of local volunteer Fire company. In Osmond seven years 1949 to 1956 he played a soprano and baritone. His favorite Osmond music is ‘Bells of St. Mary’. 

MMM: Trip to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

 

Jack Hackett

Married to Elsie, they have one child and one grandchild. Jack worked fot Booth Bottling Co. and Canada Dry Co. Jack is now retired. In Osmond from 1945 to 1953 he started as a soprano and changed to a baritone. His favorite Osmond music was‘Stout Hearted Men’ ‘Bells of St. Mary’ and ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue”. He likes all Osmond Music.

Ken Hayes

Married to Arlene (Scbilling), they had three children (one deceased) and they have three grandchildren. Ken worked for the telephone company and retired in 1985. In Osmond from 1941 to 1948 he played a snare drum. His favorite music was Big Bands. 

MMM: National VFW Convention Parade , Boston 1946.

 

Joseph Finnegan 

Married to Helen (Ryan), they have six children and four grandchildren and one on the way. Joe is retired from Rohm and Haas and spends most of his time fishing. Joe was in Osmond for one year and played the bass drum.

 

Clarence “Hout” Hottenstein

Married to Barbara (Gunn), they have three children and nine grandchildren. Hout worked as an operating engineer. In Osmond in 1955, he played the cymbals. His favorite music was We the People’. 

MMM: Bus rides and Batavia, New York.

 

William R. Keim

Married to Dot, they have three children and four grandchildren. Bill works for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. In Osmond for two years. he played a soprano horn.   

 

 

Ed Klein

Married to Frances, they have six children and a grandchild. Ed was a Supervisor with the Bell Atlantic Co. for 38 years. Now retired he works three days a week as the maintenance man for his church. In Osmond from 1940 to 1948 he played a soprano. His favorite Qsmond music was “Remember Pearl Harbor’. 

MMM: (1)Everyone standing at Attention after the contest in the VFW Nationals in St Louis with the tears streaming down my face when Osmond was announced the winners. (2) When we left the field after the retreat and St Vincent’s cadets applauding Qsmond for winning, what a great feeling.

 

 

 

Herb ‘Bud’ Locker

Married to Adrienne J(.Jenny), they have four children and two grandchildren. Bud worked 37 years with the Navy Department (Civilian Service), 8 years at the Philadelphia Naval Yard. then 25 years in Washington D. C. He also spent three years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. In Osmond for eight years 1942 to 1950, and in Reilly for 8 years 1954 to 1962, he played a soprano. 

MMM: After winning the VFW National title in Miami. we were stuck in Hurricane when leaving for home. The bus was ordered to pull over and we had to remain inside bus due to the live electrical wires in the street.

 

Ted Locker

Married to Theresa, they have six children and eleven grandchildren. Ted was a sales­man for the Chicago Music Co. and owned a sporting goods store. He now owns a fishing tackle store which sells wholesale and retail. In Osmond for ten years he played a soprano bugle. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’.

Vincent Mazzei

Married to Ellamae , they have two children and three grandchildren. Vincent is now retired. He was in Osmond for two years. His favorite music is Big Bands and light classical.

Dick McDonald

Dick was in Qsmond for seven years and played a soprano.

 

 

George E. McCracken

Married to Dolores (Eisenachi they have five children and fifteen grandchildren (4 step) He is the Vice President with Cabot Hosiery. In Osmond for three years George played a baritone horn. His favorite music is Barbershop. 

MMM: Winning the VFW Nationals in 1948 and 1949. The Great time in Miami during the Hurricane with Dolores.

 

 

 

James P. Meehan

Married to Kathleen ‘Cass’ (Widmeier), they have four children and ten grandchildren. Jim was World Wide Director for Johnson & Johnson Co. for 17 years. He was VP World Wide Marketing and Sales for G.D. Seaile for 7 years and President of Cardio Pulmonary Inc., (CPI) at G.D. Searle Co., also WW Marketing and Sales at Syntex for one and a half years. He is CEO at JPM International. In Osmond for four years Jim was a first horn. His favorite Osmond Music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’

Long time friendship with Joe Roach, Don Adair, Bob Adair, Wolfie, Shadow Mountain, Tom and Betty Cleighton, John Danks, Vivian Place, Kitty and Bob Cwalino, Stephanie Southrey, Roseanne Cass, etc. who have stayed in-touch-with in some fashion these past 50 years. Don Mihok

Married to Eileen B. ,they have two children and two grandchildren. Don was in Banking. (Now Retired. Reason - Too Old). In Osmond for four years, 1946 to 1949, He played the snare drum. 

MMM: All Nationals (Boston, Cleveland, St.Louis and especially Miami).

 

 

Bill Mitten

Married to Gladys, they had two children and two grandchildren. Bill was in Osmond from 1929 to 1942, he played a G-horn, a drum and on occasions was a Drum Major. Bill had thought that they had a good corps before 1936, but the Drum and Bugle Corps Association had an age limit of 18. Because of this rule, some members had to leave in 1936. After the loss of these members Osmond lost their competitive edge. The rule was changed later to 21 year, but too late for the corps. His favorite Osmond music was Thunder’, ‘Isle of Capri’ and There something about a Soldier’. 

MMM; Corps wore Gold Shirts with Blue Tam and had a Minstral shows to raise money. Some new members; Danny Neu, Joe Bradly and Dick Smith joined Osmond in 1937, and they went with Bill to The Reilly Raiders after the war.

 

 

George J. Mohelski 

Married to Christine (Nee: Caswell), they have three children and six grandchildren. George left Osmond in 1953 and joined the Air Force. He went through aviation cadet training and became an Officer. He flew B-47 and B-52 bombers. Had two tours in Viet Nam. He retired 31 March, 1973 with 20 years. Went to Virginia Beach and worked for Sears for 20 years and retired in 1993. In Osmond for three years 1950 to 1953, George played first horn. His favorite music is Pop and New Age. 

MMM: Drinking too much at Willie Curlot’s house in Atlantic City.

 

 

Rich Mohelski

Married to Sarah Ann, they have two children. Rich was a Sales Administrator and Meat Buyer at A& P Markets from 1951 to 1971. He was a Sales Rep. for Oscar Mayer and Co. from 1971 to 1984. In 1984 he Joined Dean Wltter Reynolds, Quick and Reilly as a stock broker. In Osmond for five years 1950 to 1955, Rich played a bugle. His favorite music is Sinatra, Streisand and Sousa Marches (of course).

Joe, John and Ray Mountain

Joseph R. Mountain, Sr.

Married to Helen, they have three children and four grandchildren. Joe was a ComputerProgrammer, who worked as a civilan employee for thirty-two years for the U. S.Navy, this included ten years programming for the U. S. Marine Corps. In Osmond twoyears 1943 and 1946, he played the baritone horn. His favorite Osmond songs wereThe Thunderer’ and ‘Stout Hearted Men’. 

MMM: Winning the 1946 Pennsylvania VFW State Championship, Philadelphia, Pa..

   

John A. Mountain 

Married to Josephine H. (Kremer), they have four children and nine grandchildren. His career has been in Finance. In Osmond for 5 years from July 4, 1942 to July 28, 1947 John played the soprano horn and carried the second horn section in 1945 and 1946. His favorite music: Sousa’s marches, but I came to appreciate the concert of Reilly (Student Prince), of Archie (Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and Warsaw Concerto) and of 214 (Dvorak’s symphony from the New World). Walt Fuller taught me to appreciate good music in spite of myself. 

MMM:. I remember Osmond won a parade competition in Camden, NJ. in the fall of 1945 and beat 214, McCall and Audubon (how I hated losing to girls). This was the first competition we won in over three years. Things seemed to get a lot better after that I never traveled more than a few miles from Philadelphia except with B & D corps. The trip to Boston in September, 1946 was my first and most memorable long trip. I remember also the men and women who devoted a lot of their free time to the corps. Of course, Hymie is first on any list. But I remember Kitty Ryan, Mr. Mundt and Mrs. Locker, too.

 

Ray “Shadow’ Mountain

Married to Annamarie in 1991. Ray has three children. He retired from Unisys after thirty years. In Osmond for nine years (1943 - 1951) he played a baritone horn. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Coke’, ‘Bells of St. Mary’, ‘Slaughter’, ‘Good News’, See You In My Dreams’, and the ‘Donkey Seranade’, I remember most of the baritone part of that song(Donkey) that won the 1946 VFW National Jr. Brass Quartet in Boston. 

MMM: VFWConventions at Boston, Cleveland, St. Louis, Miami. Chicago, New York. Contest inAllentown. Bayonne, Clementon Park, Upper Darby, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and atTamaqua. All without air conditioned buses and the help of an interstate highway systemand rest rooms on the buses. How hot it was in the summer with the heavy wool coats.Girls fainting in Boston. Salt pills. Being late most of the time.

 

 

Don Mundt

Married to Helen, they have two children and three grandchildren. Don was a Electronic Engineer with Univac and G.E.. He is retired but still works part time. In Osmond from 1943 to 1950, he played a snare drum and was a drill instructor. His favorite music was the Gary Owen March.

Dick Penrod

Married to Josie, they have seven children and twelve grandchildren. He is retired but was a manager with Bell Atlantic Co. for thirty-eight years. In Osmond Dick played 1st soprano for one year. His favorite Osmond song was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’.

MMM: Meeting my best friend - Bob Adair.

 

 

Carl ‘Gov’ Place

Married to Vivian, they have two children and a grandchild. Carl works for the U. S. Government at a supply center. In Osmond from 1953 to 1956 he played a French Horn. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’.

Joseph P. Roach

Married to Rita, they have two children and five grandchildren. Now retired, Joe was Financial and Distribution Controller of six different operations of Remington Rand Univac and Sperry Univac, Spare Parts Manager for Univac and Director of Worldwide Support and Material for Sperry Univac. In Osmond for five years he played a baritone horn. Joe was called to active duty with the U. S Marines from 1950 to 1952. Upon his return he helped the corps as the Drill Instructor. His favorite Osmond music was ‘Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. 

MMM: Winning Nationals in Miami.

 

Patrick J. Roach  

Pat has two children. He is a Sr. Consultant on computer software and documenting computer mainframe systems. Presently at Smith Kline working on year 2000 changes (Y2K). In Osmond for twelve years Pat played 2nd horn, 1st horn and Baritone. Favorite Osmond music: ‘Burgundy’, ‘Finiculi’. ‘Mounties’, ‘Slaughter’, ‘Gabriel’ and ‘Coke’. 

MMM: Miami - Hurricane party -St Vinny - Prince- Turning backs on Ballantine -Won Again - East Germantown took 2nd. - Hymie.

 

 

Donald F. Rogerson

Married to Phyllis (Blessing), they have three children and five grandchildren. Don is a building manager. In Osmond for four (plus) years, he played a horn. 

MMM: Meeting his future wife.

 

 

Art Rutherford

Married to Lois (Schilling), they have two children and three grandchildren. Art was a electro-mechanical engineer. He is retired from General Instrument, Jerrold Division. In Osmond for six years Art played the bass drums. His favorite music was Show tunes and Military marches. 

MMM: Our trip to Florida where we won the VFW national title.

 

 

Ray Schrandt  

Married to Grace, they have two children. Production Manager in the Typesetting Industry for 44 years. Retired, but still works with a .print company for three days a week. In Osmond for five years 1945 to 1949, played Snare drum, Bass drum and Cymbals. 

MMM: Won National Drum Quartet title in Miami. Winning the Nationals in St Louis and Miami

 

 

Larry Scott

Married to Ruth~ they have one child. Larry worked with his brothers, Walt and Bill. in the family plumbing business his father owned. He has just passed a record 1000 contests he judged during fifty years. Larry also played football with the Cheltenham Football Club and the 0lney Vets. He was the President of the Reilly Raiders for five years. In Osmond from l937 to 1938 he played a baritone. His favorite Qsmond music was ‘Harbor Light’ and ‘Isle of Capri. 

MMM: Contest at Clementon Park and swimming in lake after contest Baby Parades at the shore. Drum corps provided a great way for a teenager to get to the beaches of New Jersey. The Memorial Parade and Contest in Vernon Park in Germantown. Having to parade before you can compete in contest Care was taken by all Directors not to get behind the horse riders. There were no clean-up crew following the horses in those days.

 

 

 

Donald Sharp

Married to Marie (Kurtz), they have four children and twelve grandchildren. Don is retired from AM Corp. and was a point of sale repairman. In Osmond for four years, he played the drums.

 

 

George J. Smith 

Married to Joann, they have three daughters. He was a University Administrator.Manager of Public Assembly Facilities, Arenas ,Convention Centers and PerformingArts Centers. He is now retired. In Qsmond for three or four years, George played 2nd horn. His favorite music now is contemporary but in the 1950s it was Rock and Roll. 

MMM: National Championship in Miami Florida.

 

Russ Thornton

Married to Elaine, they have five sons and three grandsons. He is employed in the trucking business. In Qsmond from the winter of 1954 to 1956, Russ played a soprano horn. 

MMM: Chestnut Hill Park wienie roast and the beer parties.

   

John Weckerly

Married to Janet, they had three children and three grandchildren. John is retired. In Osmond from 1929 to 1941, he played a horn. John’s father was the treasure of the new Osmond Post Cadets and mortgaged his home to get the new uniforms. Four ‘Block Parties’ were run on his street to help pay back the mortgage.

 

 

Lee Wolf    

Married to Yetta, (Deceased) they have three children and four grandchildren. He work as a Auto Parts Salesman and is now retired. He joined DAV Corps in 1938 but left to go to Qsmond in 1939 stayed thru 1948, he played a soprano. He taught and arranged music for Osmond 1944 thru 1954. The first song he arranged for Osmond was Lonesome Road’ His favorite Osmond music was “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue’. MMM: Winning the Nationals in 1948. but all winnings were great.
