Corps History

St. Joseph’s Cadets were organized in 1947 by the Rev. Thomas J. Finnegan, with the approval and wholehearted cooperation of the Pastor, Rev. William J. Bradley. Their colors are orange, blue and gold; their uniforms are cadet style. The Corps rise to prominence has been rapid. Constant improvement found them finishing 3rd at the American Legion Nationals at St. Louis this year by .11 of a point. The corps makes numerous appearances in street parades each year as well as in the type of field competition you will witness today. The corps won the “Dream Contest” last year as well as the New England and Northeastern open titles. This year they captured the VFW open title at the State Convention in Wildwood. They are noted for their fine bugle and drum lines and their spirited marching. The group was invited and participated in the half time entertainment at the “Gator Bowl” in Jacksonville, Ha. this past New Year’s Day. Constantly driving forward in competition, they have acquired the nicknames of “Mighty St. Joe’s”, “Hilltoppers” and “Mighty Mites”. No matter what the outcome, you can be sure that they are striving to repeat this year their victory here last year. You can rest assured of a pleasing performance.
