Corps History
A Smooth well trained unit is an apt description of Irvington Squadron—the maroon and gray has been consistent in its neat, orderly and disciplined display for a good many years—was organized in 1938—all members were Sons of Veterans of the First World War—have a mellow bugle section with an accent on fine modulation—have always been strong competitors in individual contests—former members had a fine War record—war brought playing members down to a minimum—necessitated calling on daughters of the American Legion which is a Junior Auxiliary of Irvington Post No. 16 for the Color Guard and Major—Corps has a fine civic background— known for its civic magnanimity with relation to other communities—Corps was reorganized in 1943—has always been a top ranking Corps— gives all competitors a rough time—got a tough break in the 1947 National in drumming—would have copped it otherwise—musical direction is under Richard Witte—the welding force and hard worker for the Corps is the Corps Director, Al Busch—their Drum Major is Frances Fuhr.
